2006 iF Design Awards for Acer TravelMate 8200 and 5-Series LCD Monitors
This probably comes as no surprise given the excellent response we have seen towards the Acer TravelMate 8200. In any case, the TravelMate 8200 and 5-Series (AL1751/AL1951/AL2051W) LCD monitors have won the 2006 iF (International Forum) awards for product design. Thumbs up to Acer, and I sure hope this performance continues as the Napa and Viiv platforms are fully explored.

SAN JOSE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jan. 7, 2006–Acer America Corporation, one of the leading worldwide suppliers of IT solutions, announced today that the TravelMate 8200 and 5-Series (AL1751/AL1951/AL2051W) LCD monitors have won the 2006 iF (International Forum) awards for product design. The iF seal of design excellence has become a symbol for superior quality and developed into a trend-setting design competition over the past five decades.
“Recognition by world-class design contests and top rankings in market research data are evidence that our product designs truly meet customer needs and are delivered to the market at the right time,” said Gianfranco Lanci, President of Acer Inc. “Our long-term mission is to break the barriers between people and technology, and these results prove we are indeed realizing the mission.”
According to global IT market intelligence and advisory firm, IDC, Acer notebooks ranked No. 4 worldwide in Q3 2005, No. 1 in Western Europe, and No. 3 in Asia Pacific. In addition, Acer notebooks displayed outstanding results by achieving the No. 1 position across 19 countries across the globe.
Data from display industry consultant Bryan Norris Associates on the European branded market showed that Acer continued to grow in Q3 2005 and extended its leading LCD position with 19.1% market share. Acer ranked No. 1 in LCD monitors across nine countries: Austria, the Czech Republic, Spain, Finland, France, Italy, Holland, Switzerland and the Slovak Republic. Furthermore, Acer holds a 4% market share advantage over the competition.
The TravelMate 8200 is Acer’s flagship commercial notebook, blending timeless colors with innovative materials and textures. Embodying the extreme in mobile computing, it is powered by Intel® Centrino® Duo mobile technology and featuring next-generation GDDR3 memory, along with a 15.4-inch widescreen display and integrated security solutions. The notebook cover utilizes carbon fiber, a highly resilient and light material used in the aerospace industry for dependability. An integrated 1.3 mega pixel high-resolution CMOS web camera delivers higher quality video, while the 225-degree rotation of the camera means users can take photos of objects behind the notebook cover without turning the notebook around.
The 5-Series LCD monitors combine design aesthetics, structure and functionality and are available in 17″, 19″ and 20″ wide-screens. Their ultra-fast response time of 8ms is ideal for PC gamers. A torque-design LCD hinge allows easy adjustment into three positions without latches or buttons.
Just under 2,000 products submitted from 37 countries competed for the 2006 iF design award, which has become one of the world’s key design competitions and a benchmark for outstanding design. Evaluation criteria included design quality, workmanship, material choice, environmental friendliness, ergonomics and safety.
