2x 320GB = 640GB Notebook Hard Disk Configuration?
Trolling through Acer’s recent laptop offerings, I was particularly fixated by those with massive storage space. In particular, the Acer Aspire 7720 and 9920 got my attention, each with two 160GB hard disk drives.
But with 320GB HDDs already set to ship in the 4th quarter of this year (Toshiba’s MK52GSX) or at latest Q1 2008 (Fujitsu’s MHZ2 BH), one wonders how far (or rather how big) we’re going to get in 6 months time. Is a 2x 320GB = 640GB configuration realistic heat-wise (since other technical issues seem entirely solvable)? Anyone with enough tech-smarts to give us any input on this?

It should not be a problem, as there are existing dual-hard-drive laptop designs on the market. The heat output of the hard drive is influenced mainly by its platters’ rotational speed.
If the drives run at 5400rpm and are ventilated similarly to existing drives, heat will not be a big problem (except when going full load back in Malaysian weather, perhaps).
I do not foresee a problem for a 17-inch design (which is the smallest that could hold 2 HDDs feasibly anyway)

Hi there, I have a Aspire 5680 laptop, and i am monitoring my core temperature with SpeedFan cos it swithed off by itself.
I’d like to know if having a stable 53°C Core is ok or not. The temperature grows little by little starting from 47°C to 53°C, and does not changes anymore.
What do u suggest?
What is the normal temperature?

Hiya AcerFan. I’ve replied your email on this, but your temps seem normal enough. Check out this forum thread for more info on this.
