Acer Aspire 9800: HD-DVD Monster

Following Toshiba’s entry into the HD-DVD notebook market, the Toshiba G30 (the very first HD-DVD notebook BTW), Acer is believed to be releasing its own HD-DVD notebook, the Aspire 9800. Well, no accompanying image yet, but quite a bit has been leaked specs-wise. For one, the Aspire 9800 will sport a huge 20″ 1680×1050 LCD screen.

Of course, the pretty screen would be useless without the “proper” fundamentals, i.e. an Intel Core Duo processor, a 240GB hard disk drive, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, and the HD-DVD drive. Like the one equipped on the Toshiba G30, this HD-DVD drive won’t allow you to write to a HD-DVD disc. So, you’ll have to make do with dual-layer DVDs.

Other than that, the Aspire 9800 mirrors the rest of Acer’s dual-core offerings, i.e. 1.3 megapixel camera, VOIP phone, etc.

So, ready to dump Blu-Ray and jump onto the HD-DVD bandwagon yet?
