Today, we will be having more Acer Ferrari F-20 review goodness from Tom’s Hardware. Unlike the rest of the reviews we’ve seen here though, this review awards a mere average rating to the Ferrari F-20 - which is probably a plus for consumers given the many favourable reviews on the F-20 already.

The primary negative they saw with the Ferrari F-20 was its poor sound reproduction, but their conclusion wasn’t too favourable either. They concluded that, “What’s our final assessment of the F20? In fact, the difference in performance from the Acer AL2032W, which we tested recently, wasn’t significant. So if your budget is a little tight and you’re hesitating between the two, you can rule out the Acer F20. Given what you get for the high price, the F20 will probably remain more a showpiece for Acer than anything else. Too bad, really, because the monitor’s finish is excellent, as is the general concept behind it.”

3rd Acer Ferrari F-20 LCD Monitor Review

Just like in PC Pro’s recent favourable review of the Acer Ferrari F-20 LCD monitor, PC Advisor declares the F-20 “…a quality purchase that won’t disappoint…” in their “>own review of the impressive monitor.

Apparently, PC Advisor had initially thought of the Acer Ferrari F-20 as a “…high-concept case of style over substance…” but were (happily) proven wrong when they inspected the monitor first hand. Overall, the reviewers gave the F-20 scores of 9/10 for both build quality and features, as well as a 7/10 for value for money.

And so ends another favourable review of the Acer Ferrari F-20. Undoubtedly, we’re not going to see any negative reviews of this screen anytime soon, if at all.

2nd Acer Ferrari F-20 LCD Monitor Review

We had the first Acer Ferrari F-20 LCD monitor review more than a month back, but it seems that the stylish screen still attracts tech-lover attention. It is now PC Pro with a rather favourable review of the Ferrari F-20, which they conclude as, “A superb screen that excelled in our tests, but you can get the same performance for less.”

This conclusion stems from the fact that, while the Ferrari F-20 comes with impressive specifications, you could get the comparable Acer AL2032WA for £82 less (at the time of review). And according to PC Pro, that £82 could very well be used to procure a digital TV tuner. But of course, they admit that the “sheer impact” of the screen could very well be worth the £82.

Worthless Acer Ferrari F-20?

Acer Ferrari F-20 LCD Monitor

Edit: This is a case of utter stupidity on my part. Please don’t bother reading this as I am utterly incorrect. If you want a few laughs though, read on. Make sure you check the original Inquirer article to see how dumb my post is.

Over at the Inquirer, Désiré Athow says some funny things about the newly released Acer Ferrari F-20 Widescreen LCD monitor while rounding up the recent hardware releases. Well, guess what is said about the cool F-20: “The chassis feet are powered by your power supply just in case you were wondering and while they might be very cool, you will probably wear out their novelty quite quickly. Superb and fairly impressive. But worthless if you are using a laptop or if your desktop is tucked away in a cupboard.”

Well, that could be right. But it’s a Ferrari damn it. If you already have a Ferrari notebook, how can you not complete a set? Besides, just make sure your desktop isn’t “tucked away in a cupboard”. That’s far better than skipping out on the F-20.

Acer Ferrari F-20 LCD Monitor

bit-tech.net reviews the Acer Ferrari F-20 LCD Monitor. I’ll not paraphrase simply because I’ll not do the reviewer’s words justice: “It’s not all that often that we get such a blatant object of desire in to the bit-tech labs. This week, we’ve been fortunate enough to have two: the Alienware Aurora 7500 we reviewed on Wednesday, and this, possibly the best-looking LCD monitor on the face of the planet.”

bit-tech.net then concludes with, “The Acer Ferrari F20 is undeniably a gorgeous monitor. It performs well, and the addition of a TV tuner makes it more flexible than your average LCD monitor. It’s not as cheap as some competing displays, but the good looks and the badge on the front more than make up for this. Overall, it will make a well-performing, great-looking addition to the desktop of any style-conscious bit-tech reader. We can’t give it an award for Best Value or Total Excellence, but it certainly is one hot piece of hardware.”

Mac Automotive-Style Notebook Needed

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

No. I know what you must be thinking, but this post isn’t completely unrelated to Acer. In a recent column at MacOPINION, Charles Moore talks about how Apple could use automative co-branding as a means to further boost its coolness level even further. And guess which notebook manufacturer Moore refers to as a model: Acer.

No surprise there. The Acer Ferrari series packs class and power in an affordable package. But Moore praises the Acer to high heaven with:

Currently, the PC notebook whose siren call entices me the most is Acer’s Ferrari 4000 laptop, which is not only drop-dead gorgeous to look at, but also a sizzling performer that leaves current PowerBooks choking in its dust.

And this for the newly released Ferrari LCD Monitor series:

Acer also just announced their new, extremely cool Ferrari F-20 LCD Monitor which will sell for approximately $599, and go just great with a Mac mini.

That’s strong praise all right.
